Hi quixin,
The counter field addresses the "expiring password" problem. Some sites, like banks or other financial institutions, require users to change their password every X days or months.

Many people requested the ability to generate different passwords over time for the same site (while leaving all other settings alone). This is where the counter field comes in. Some people wanted it to be a number (e.g., 1-12), while others wanted to be able to enter a date.

The compromise is that you can enter anything you like in this field, and change it as often as you like. You can also leave it blank if the site doesn't expire passwords. If you do choose to use the field, I recommend using a simple method, like an incrementing number or a periodically changing date.

The built-in help will contain this information in a future release.

Hope this answers your question,
Eric
