Passwordmaker Dashboard Widget
« on: January 28, 2008, 04:05:06 PM »
Using mostly the code from the Firefox extension, I've created a Mac OS X version of Passwordmaker. Since I don't use Firefox on Mac, it is what I use to generate my passwords. It is very similar in functionality to the Yahoo! widget. It doesn't automatically clear the clipboard; however, it will clear the password fields on the widget after a time you specify.

I'd love for people to try it out(http://www.brighambrown.com/blog/?p=5), and let me know what is hard to use or what features it is missing.

Cool! Now if only I had a Mac.

Can I recruit you to make a OSX binary of the Desktop Edition by chance? (and be a tester on that platform)

Excellent! Do we mind if we add a section about this at passwordmaker.org?

That would be great. I'd like feedback about it. I think it's pretty useful. It's stopped me from having to visit the website every time.

Two strikes against me for the Desktop widget:
1. This widget is the biggest programming project I've done in OS X so far, and so I don't have a lot of experience.
2. I haven't really used the current Desktop widget.

However, I have been looking for something that would motivate me to learn more about OS X development, so I will give it a shot.

I hope that the QT docs has enough enough to at least provide binaries. If you dealt with C++, it shouldn't be too hard to get into things. Though, I never developed on a Mac, so I could be really wrong anyway.

yokunaikoto,

I've linked to edition from our wiki here, and placed the screenshot here.

Have you tried the PasswordMaker Dashboard Widget written by Daniel Weiss discussed here?

I did try it, and I was hoping it would work for me. I couldn't generate a password, however. That might be because I'm using Leopard. It looks like it's an adapted version of the mobile edition, which means that it's submitting all the data over a network. I'm not really comfortable with that. I do give him credit for getting it out there first.

I've updated the widget to allow editable character sets and have put the source code on Google project hosting.

Download it at http://pwm-dboard.googlecode.com/files/passwdmaker-0.1b.zip.

The blog entry I wrote about it is at http://www.brighambrown.com/blog/?p=7.

The project page is at http://code.google.com/p/pwm-dboard/.

Would you consider hosting the source code in the main PasswordMaker subversion repository if I give you access? I'd also like to host the download on the sourceforge download page, too. What do you think?

I think that makes perfect sense. Of course, I don't have any interest in maintaining the project in two places, so I would take the Google Code project down. If you need any information from me, let me know, and I'll PM it to you, or just PM me when things are set up.

Just need the SourceForge username you have.

This is a very cool widget, but ... how come it is not listed in the Downloads section of http://passwordmaker.sourceforge.net/index.html?

Because the SourceForge site is no longer maintained.
