1.7.1b1:

password is remembered only if i use the magic key, if i press the PM button, it brings it up without the password.
confirmation field shown even if defined as not required.

You may be behind a version or two. If you are using a beta version of 1.7.1, then be aware a newer version is out (Firefox's updater should tell you this)

If you meant 1.7.2, then there's a beta 2 that may have fixed this already.

Note that Firefox won't alert you of new beta releases. This is because the beta releases are hosted at http://passwordmaker.org instead of http://addons.mozilla.org
