New FF window not to require another MPW prompt
« on: June 12, 2007, 04:20:20 PM »
Scenario:

- open a FF window, visit a login page, enter master password prompt
- open another FF window, visit a login page; the master password prompt will be asked again
It would be nice not to be prompted again. Not sure this can be done, though.

One is not prompted for a MPW when opening a new tab, which is nice.

Sure you can do this - the answer is staring you in the face on the MPW prompt window ;) - and you have two options, actually...

1. Save MPW to memory - this is a per session save, so after closing the last FF window, then opening a new window, you'll again be prompted for the MPW, which will again be saved until you close the last window...

2. Save MPW to disk - this survives sessions, and reboots as well...

Of course, both of these bring a higher security risks with them - the safest is to never save it at all...

I think he might be using the save to memory option.

Yes, I am using the "save to memory" option.

I would expect to have to enter the MPW after opening the first FF session, but not subsequent ones.

The way most Firefox extensions work tend to make each window work like separate applications, and unless something is written to disk someplace, don't share info with each other.

OK. Thanks.

HTTP authentication is shared between FF windows, though. So it is different for extensions, then...

Hmmm... never noticed this because I generally use just one window...

Filed for future reference...

This is possible and was probably just an oversight on my part since I only use a single firefox browser (with many tabs).

So...

Is this trivial enough to just fix it now - or should I add a FR?

Could you add it to the list so I don't lose track of it?
