Store Various Fields in Encrypted Format
« on: February 25, 2007, 02:26:36 PM »
Hi Eric:

I absolutely LOVE this product   As a Windows to Linux convertee, I am still a big user of Roboform, mainly due to it's fantastic form filler.  One of the features I would love to see (I apologize in advance if I missed this being requested already) is the ability to store my credit card number in an encrypted field.  I tried to put said number in as a password field type but it would not pull that value back out once I tried to fill in the value on a website.

One other thing that would be nice, is the ability to store my personal identity information as well; those of you that have used Roboform should know what I am referring to.  It may be beyond the mission of this program however, and if so that is fine.  I just would like to have one program that does it all for me; selfish I know, but nothing ventured, nothing gained..

Thanks Again,
-Dan

All of the fields on the 'Advanced Auto-populate' tab are encrypted.

? On a per account basis, this should work fine. You simply add the fieldname that is used by the form according to the instructions (simply click in the 'fieldname' box on the advanced auto-pop tab, then click in the field on the form for your CC#, then add the value (the CC#), then click the 'Add' button. You can also check the 'Notify me when this field isn't found' checkbox to let you know if they ever change the fieldname (or remove the field)...

You can add whatever you want to the 'Notes' field - but currently, that is not encrypted. Currently, the #1 Feature Request for PWM is for Encrypting the RDF file, which would then protect this info. I took the liberty of adding a vote from you, please let me know if you want me to remove it (or if you want me to add any votes for any other Feature Requests)...

tanstaafl:

When you say all fields in the advanced auto-populate are encrypted, does that include all field types?  Here is the reason I ask. When I look at the passwordmaker.rdf file at a field called expirationdate (for my credit card expiration date) I should not be able to see the corresponding value, of mmyyyy, but in fact I do.  So, my qustion is, is the field only encrypted in certain field types?  Clearly, once the rdf file is encrypted, this will become a mute point I suppose.

I am on 1.61 of the Mozilla plugin.

I appreciate your reply!

Only the password type field is encrypted. All the rest is plain text.

Ouch! I could have sworn that I remember Eric saying that all of them on this tab were encrypted...

Thanks for the correction...

The plan was to encrypt the whole file, not individual fields... that's why everything is plain text except password fields.
