Automatic password changes using modifier
« on: October 08, 2006, 02:28:20 PM »
I understand from previous forum interactions with miguel in July 2006 that the "counter" is now the "modifier".  However, it's not clear how I use the modifier.  Specifically, if I want to change the password for a particular site every 90 days, what would I put in the modifier input box?  Will the change be automatic?

Hi Wris,

No, the change is not automatic. You can put anything you like in the modifier because it's a free-text field; for example, a number, a phrase or, my favorite, the date when you entered the modifier. Using the date (any format) lets you know at a quick glance how long you've been using the same modifier. Just change the date (modifier) whenever you need a new password. You could also try a number and then just increment the number as often as you like.

HTH,
Eric

Thanks, Eric-
Then I understand that the unique password is generated from: master+site+modifier, and using the modifier does not take over from my having to remember when I need to change (or just waiting to get a reminder).  Right?

Miquel-
No matter how I try to do it, I cannot create an account specific modifier that automatically generates the intended, changed password, leaving all others unchanged.  After I set it up, PassWordMaker still generates the password from Default, not the new account settings with modifier.  Is there a step by step procedure for doing this?
