Title: How do I get the field name/Id in 1.5
Post by: Lutz on February 12, 2006, 09:19:53 PM
Hi,
I tried PasswordMaker 1.4.3 - and the iedea is pretty cool.
Unfortunately PasswordMaker cannot really know what to fill into the fields if there is more than just one user / password field on the web site.

I had a look to 1.5 and voila, there is a new feature that seems to help there - I can specify what should be filled in into the fields.
Unfortunately I was not able to find out where I / Passwordmaker is getting the field name / ID from. Ok, I can read the html source, but when I used the name and ID I found there PasswordMaker complains about not finding the field.

Furthermore (wish) I missed a possibility to modify a field definition.

Can anybody explain how this is supposed to work and when the new feature will be officially available.

Lutz

I generally haven't seen very many login screens with more than one actual username/password field, but often there are other fields *besides* the username/password fields, and yes, sometimes PM can get confused, if non-standard labels are used for them.

Well, this is brand new functionality, so the UI I'm sure will change a little as Eric gets feedback on it...

After just a quick glance, I agree it is a bit awkward to use... for one thing, as soon as you click on a field on the form, the PM window disappears behind the form, which then has to be brought back to the foreground...

Eric, would it be possible to write a little script that simply grabs all of the fields on the current form, then presents them in a list, that you can then conveniently select which ones to auto-populate (and with what)? If this is possible, it would be most helpful if the field label that is presented on the web form itself could be associated with each one, but I'm not sure how easy that would be either. If it isn't easy, then as each field is 'grabbed', maybe populate it with a number (1, 2, 3, so on), so that we can easily see which field is which.

If this isn't possible, is it possible to force the PM window to stay on top, even when you are clicking on the form behind it? That would help a lot.

I'm glad to see this functionality coming to life, but I think it will take a little work to make it user-friendly...

I've done this and it will be available in version 1.5.1.

I agree. Please continue with the ideas...
