Title: Extension Manager interaction broken?
Post by: tanstaafl on September 12, 2005, 12:48:54 PM
Anyone else notice this problem?

I tried deleting the rdf file and let PM recreate it - same results.

PM (0.8.1) now always shows sorted to the bottom of the Extensions list, and the 'Options' button is not enabled. In past PM versions, extension sorting worked fine, and I was always able to get into the Options from the Extension Manager (not that this is a problem for me, but it did used to work so is probably a bug).

Unfortunately, extensions have no control over how they are displayed in the Extension Manager list... so this isn't something I can change. Perhaps you upgraded Firefox and the EM works differently now...

I've noticed this, too. I'll look into it...

Ack, forgot to mention...

I'm using the Ext2Abc (http://roachfiend.com/archives/category/extensions/) extension, which allows you to sort your extensions. I have been using it forever, and never had it conflict with anything, but anything's possible.

For informational purposes, I use MR Tech's Local Install 3.0.1 (http://www.mrtech.com/extensions/) to alphabetize my extension list which does sort PasswordMaker correctly.

Well, then. I stand corrected! See my post here (http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=1737188). I'm on it.

Actually, I wasn't asking for it to do it *without* using Ext2Abc, I was pointing out that up until 0.7.3 at least (I *think 0.8b sorted as well), it *did* sort properly with Ext2Abc, but that when I installed 0.8.1, I noticed that it did *not* sort. I noticed that the 'Options' button was greyed out at the same time, so these two problems may be related...

Hmm. I doubt they're related. Maybe you could post a message in the Ext2Abc forum and see what RoachFiend says?

I will, but I really don't think this is an Ext2Abc problem - all other extensions still sort properly - just PM stays at the bottom of the list, and PM stopped sorting right after I installed 0.8.1.

Also, can you confirm that the 'Options' button in the Extension Manager should be enabled (click on it to bring up the PM Options window) when in the Extensions Manager?

On mine the Options button is not active.  It is grayed out.  So, I do not think think has anything to do with a compatibality issue.

There is obviously something prohibiting the use of Options, whatever that may be could also be prohibiting Ext2Abc from sorting it as it sorts other extensions.  Whatever this problem is it doesn't seem to effect Mr. Tech's Local Install for sorting extensions.

Good point.  I never use the option button in PM, because I have the ring on my button bar, but I can see where the option button might be useful for newbies.  I do not know if it was active before, or when it became inactive.  That is something the master of all passwords would have to answer, I guess.

By the way.. I forgot to mention, the sorting problem was because FFox had automatically updated Ext2Abc to ver 0.3 - but that version only works with the Deerpark builds, which I have not started using yet.

Sorry for the fale alarm... O_o

I looked into this more and this likely isn't going to be "fixed." It's just too low of a priority for me to worry about right now. :)

It definitely isn't a problem for me...

As an aside, I got rid of Ext2Abc completely (all it did was sort the extensions), and am now using MR Tech's Local Install (http://www.mrtech.com/extensions/) extension. This is a great extension manager add-on, for anyone who wasn't already aware of it.

Sorry - that was me... I've been experimenting with PM and profiles, and didn't have it installed...
