Ok, so I'm testing out PM on a throw-away account, and I'm a bit confused about one thing ...
I've created an account under PM, added in a couple of regexps for the site, and picked the hash function. On the left hand side, under "Using Text", I get this:
*drop.io/jjsurt5*
which is obviously somehow generated from the regexps. Now, putting in a MPW gives me a generated PW. When I change the "Using Text" box to drop.io/jjsurt5 (no stars), the password changes. This value is what I'd like in the "Using Text" box, so I close the PM Advanced Options, right click on the password field at drop.io/jjsurt5/login, select "Populate this Field", and I am presented with the MP Prompt. I give it the MP and it then generates the password ... associated with *drop.io/jjsurt5* rather than that associated with drop.io/jjsurt5.
Well, how do I change this? Is there any way to keep the "Using Text" field to a specific values, as it says here:

Or, to get a specific value, do I always have to open up PW, rather than using the context menu's "Populate This Field"?
And, by the way, since my regexps looks like this:

how is the "Using Text" field calculated from this?

Also, a few other questions.
First, at drop.io, the login page just takes a password. The "username", if you like, is in the URL, the stuff after the /, "jjsurt5". I would like to make a single PM account that uses this "username", along with the MPW and hash function, to create a PW. Is this possible, or do I have to create a separate PM account for each "username"? (This could be done if the "username" part of the URL could be selected out for the "Using Text" field or maybe for the "Modifier" field, which has to do with my next question ....)
Under the PW Account Specific Settings -> Extended Settings, I get the idea of the PW prefix & suffix. What is the "Modifier"?

Next question. Some financial sites have you put in your user name, which then brings you to a page where you have to put in your password, eg:

How do we get the username page populated properly, so we can then go on to the password page? Can that username page be automatically submitted so we can go right to the password? Which brings me right to the final question ...

Finally, is there any way to do automatic authorization. Eg, click on a bookmark and have PM put in the username/password and sign you in? This would only be able to happen if the MPW were in memory, obviously, or in the case where you are just putting in a username without a password, but in those cases, is it doable?

One the same dialog where you enter the regex, you enter the using text to be used for the account.
The only username PasswordMaker cares about is what is entered into the field on it's own dialog. This is filled in on fields that PWM sees as username fields. There are username field PasswordMaker will not see however. Nothing you can do about that but use the advance auto-populate tab. (or leave it be and just fill it yourself)
Modifier is like username. It used to be called counter. It's main purpose is to allow you to change a password on a site that requires you to change the password once in a while.
There's no auto sign-in feature for PasswordMaker. The main issue is that if there's more than one form to use, which does PasswordMaker use to submit? This may never be added to PasswordMaker.

Ok, so I believe I understand that for each URL:
drop.io/dkfjdkfdjf
drop.io/qeriereep
each of which takes separate passwords, I have to create a separate PM account. Correct?
I'm still not clear if I can get this page:
https://personal.vanguard.com/us/home?fromPage=portal_image
to populate the username properly. I know it won't submit. Perhaps I need a specific PM account to populate that username, and then a different PM account to populate the password that is requested on the following page?
Finally, anything we can do for ThunderBird 3?

If you want them to have different passwords, yes, you must create an account for each.
For that page, you need to set PasswordMaker to fill in all fields, not just empty (that user name text is the current value of the field when the page loads). Another way is to click on the field (so the JS on the page clears it) and hit Alt+` (normally one the top left corner next to 1, on US keyboards at least).
Nothing planned for Thunderbird. If the issues preventing us from supporting HTTP Auth dialogs happens with Thunderbird, then PWM wouldn't know which account was being loaded anyway.
