Title: What happened to the 'URL Compnents'??
Post by: tanstaafl on April 06, 2006, 11:38:38 AM
I just noticed these are gone... there is still a FR out there asking to break these down even further, but if they are gonna be gone, I might as well remove that FR... although, to be honest, I kind of liked the option of changing them, but the fact is, I never did.

Ok, just saw that they are still on the 'Defaults', so I guess the questions is, did these used to be modifiable on a per Account basis? I thought so, but since I never modified them, I guess I never really noticed.

I never noticed it as per account.

Ditto, they never existed in the Account specific settings.

Yep, what they said. Do you want them for all accounts?

As much as I like options, I don't really think it is necessary. This is the kind of thing that I would rarely, if ever, change on a per account basis. Just the additional ability to define them for the 'When URL Contains' and 'Use This URL' fields individually would be perfect for me.

Maybe someone else can think of a good reason to add them, but I can't think of any.

It doesn't really make a difference to me.  But one note:  When I set up as new custom account, both, the When URL contains and Use this URL contain 'passwordmaker.org'.  For the sake of a lot of users who do not really understand the potential security risk / benefits of PM, it would be nice to have the When URL contains box be populated with http://forums.passwordmaker.org/ (http://forums.passwordmaker.org/) and the Use this URL with passwordmaker.org.

It's been discussed elsewhere at length, why this seems to be the most secure / convenient way of using PM, correct ?

. You can do this, you just have to configure the defaults appropriately. See this feature request (http://forums.passwordmaker.org/index.php?showtopic=803).

Oh, I didn't know that.  It is in an unfortunate place, one I would have never looked, because I would have expected in in global settings.  But hey, it works.  Thanks for pointing me there.

That might be another thing to consider when making the interface more user friendly.  When redesigning the user interface, remember my tagline.

Actually, this is incorrect. The topic you link to will let you change which URL components are used, but they are used for BOTH the 'When URL COntains' AND 'Use This URL'.

Romeo asked for the 'When URL COntains' to be the full URL, and 'Use This URL' to be only the TLD (top level domain).

This is precisely why I asked for the ability to define the URL components for each individually - so that I can configure it to do it the way Romeo described.
