Title: PM on a network?
Post by: esubvaria on January 16, 2006, 10:56:58 PM
I work in a school system where the students visit the computer labs. Is there a way to use Passwordmaker in this situation? Ideally the user information would be stored in the users network directory. Does that make sense? We see Passwordmaker as a way to (possibly) solve the multiple password dilemma.

Hi esubvaria,

PasswordMaker 1.6 (due before the end of this month) will have the ability for you to choose where to load/store the passwordmaker settings file. This should solve your problem.

In the meantime, you can do the same thing by having each student create their own Firefox profile (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder). Not only will each student have his own passwordmaker settings, but they'll also each be able to maintain unique bookmarks, cookies, history, etc. Profiles can also be password-protected (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Password-protected_profile) so one student can't delete another's bookmarks/passwordmaker settings/cookies/history/cache/etc.

Hope that helps,
Eric
