Title: Question about IE passwordmaker
Post by: Guest on January 13, 2006, 04:23:16 AM
Hello

I've been looking for a way to secure all my passwords and came across your site.  This app looks perfect.

My only concern in using this app is that although I've heard about all of these encryption schemes, I'm not well versed in them.  If I was to generate passwords using your tool, they will work.

My concern is down the road, if you were to stop supporting this script, and lets say there was an upgrade to Windows or IE that affected the functionality of this script, how would I generate my passwords.  Is there any manual process by which I can accomplish this task.

I know this may sound like a remote chance, but you'd be amazed how quickly things change....and I just want to make sure that I would be able to generate my passwords in the event that windows broke the script or you moved on to bigger and better things.

Thank you

Hi,

Your concerns are quite valid. There is nothing which might prevent the developers of PasswordMaker (4 of us now) from being hit by trucks. That is why we haveYou can download all of these free of charge and store them on your local PC for years to come. The source code is free, everything is open. Even if we all get hit by the proverbial truck, there is nothing to prevent you from accessing your passwords so long as you download the software to your local PC right now.

Please let me know if you have any other concerns,
Eric Jung

Thank you for addressing my concern.

I downloaded the html/javascript version last night.  This version consists of 24 files spread over 3 folders.

Is there a way to simplify this so that all the java code is actually contained within the html file rather then as individual files?

I know this would make the html file size large and would slow it down, but it would certainly be nice to have just a single self-contained file to carry around....I'm not sure if others would find this benificial, but it would be a nice to have.

Sure, I can do that. I might elect to make it a separate download, though... and it's going to take a few days.

Do you think you could post in this thread once the new version is available so that I don't miss it?

Thank you for the enhancement, I think it looks great.  Also, it's nice to have just a single file that is all encompassing.

thanks for pointing out the broken link (therube? or guest?)! passwordmaker is transitioning to sourceforge, so the link you're looking for can be found at http://passwordmaker.sourceforge.net/downloads/cli.html (http://passwordmaker.sourceforge.net/downloads/cli.html)
