Post by: Miquel 'Fire' Burns on May 18, 2007, 09:38:57 PM
Because of various issues with IPB, PasswordMaker forums is now running on new forum software.

Here's to a spam free setup!

Wow, that was quick. Thanks, miquel!! I'm much more inclined to start serious work on PasswordMaker now.

Loads faster on dial-up it seems.

MiquelFire & Eric, [Edited the second name to the left, my goof.  by LkonKbd]

I like this much better and it LOOKS GREAT as well.  I agree it is much faster on a dial-up connection.  I just joined another Forum and they are using this same software/w a little different look to it though.

L8R Dudes,

"MiquelFire,"

It is almost SPAM free or do you mean they can post here for FREE?  I see some for meds and other pills with other junk posted in this thread.  The letter 'j' is not shown on my system, only "unk".

Thank you for reading my crusty posty,

Spam is definitely a problem until the Visual Verification Options mod is installed...

Miquelfire? Do you want me to do it?

If you do, be sure to get the latest version (0.3) from the authors site directly (the one on the SimpleMachines site is the older 0.2)...

Cool - thanks!

Now, lets see how well it works... I deleted about 5 spam posts yesterday..

Hmmm... these broken links are going to be a problem...

I wonder if there is a simple way to fix them?

Ok - this is beyond my skillset, but here is a thread discussing this broken link problem...

If at all possible, we really need to get these fixed:

Ok, more info...

This should be esy to fix for anyone with scripting skills...

All of the broken links follow the same pattern:

Bad:

Good:

Hope someone can get this figured out and fixed...

Ok, I think I have something to take care of the issue. Doesn't use the format show above, but at least it works.

Seems to be working fine now... many thanks!

And man - this is *mucho* faster than Invision... I always assumed it was the server it was on...

Yep, everything seems to be fine - although I see occasional posts with some quoting weirdness. Not a lot, and I've been fixing them as I see them...

Is there any way to say "Subscribe me to all threads, new and old" maybe even with a SQL insert? I'm finding there are some threads to which I'm subscribed and some I'm not. I don't get subscribed to new ones that I create automatically, but that's a separate issue.

I'll try to poke around the code to see if there's something like that (or a module)

Did you set your preference in 'Profile' > 'Notifications and Email'?

I had to go in to each forum and set notification for it for new posts, but it only took about 3 minutes...

No, I hadn't done that. I've done it now... thanks. I still don't have subscriptions for all existing threads, though.

This is one of them things that I need to do testing on to make sure I don't goof something up before I do it.

Did you go into each forum, then click the 'Notify' button?

In your 'Profile' > 'Notifications and Email', at the bottom, in the ''Current Board Notifications' section, you want to see every forum listed there.

For any that are not listed, just go to that forum and click the 'Notify' button to add it to the 'watched' list...

I'm thinking that this means that you'll get modified of any posts, new or reply's, to any of these forums (making the individual 'Topic Notifications' kind of redundant)... but I'm not certain that is how it works...

It's just the new topics, not replies. I don't use this feature of forums myself actually.

Yes, I did that when the SMF forums were first installed. Miquel is right, it's only for new posts...not replies to existing posts.

How can we get rid of the "News: SMF - Just Installed!" notice at the top of every page? SMF was not just installed!

Done - I replaced it with the announcement of the new Beta version...

In the future you can manage these by logging in, clicking 'Admin', then under the first section (Main), click 'News and Newsletters' to add new announcements, edit existing ones, and delete old ones...
