"Mask Generated Password" setting doesn't persist
« on: September 16, 2006, 01:04:24 AM »
My PWM-generated passwords are pasted into fields in the clear (not masked with '*'), which makes me nervous.  I've tried setting the promising-sounding global setting, "Mask Generated Password with Asterisks", but it fails to have any effect, and is unchecked upon the next restart of PWM.

I'm using

PasswordMaker version 1.5.1
Windows XP Home Edition SP2
Firefox 1.0.5.7

Does anyone else see this?  Does anyone have any hints?
thanks!

Have you checked to make sure the "Show all passwords on web pages as clear text" is unchecked?

Oops, didn't spot that option.  Unchecking it resolves the problem, thanks!

Perhaps as a future enhancement, the "Mask Generated Password" option could be disabled if "Show all passwords on web pages as clear text" is checked.

With the myriad different ways people use PasswordMaker, we'd be hesitant to introduce behavior which limits its use. Inevitably, someone will complain that the two shouldn't be mutually exclusive (and make some point about why). The PasswordMaker team is much more apt to add features and behaviors which increase the tool's flexibility rather than limit it.
