Desktop Edition - Failure to start
« on: December 16, 2011, 12:34:08 PM »
Hi all,

I've been using the Desktop Edition of Password Maker for > 12 months with no troubles.  The version I have installed is 0.4 Beta.  It has become an integral part of how I use my computer.  This morning I tried to start Password Maker as I normally would and it gave me the following error:

passwordmaker.exe - Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005).  Click OK to close the application.

I was hoping someone here could help me figure out what I broke?  Obviously, I tried uninstalling and re-installing but to no avail.

Help please  :)

Thanks in advance,
Macca.

Is there any debugging info you can get?

What version of Windows are you running?

If you install WinDBG, you'll have the option to click "Debug", not just "OK to close the application." Clicking debug can show us where the program is crashing by showing us the "call stack" -- we'll need a screenshot of that. Let us know if you need help doing this.

by the way, there is another desktop edition you can use in the interim--http://passwordmaker.org/Desktop... then click "Java". You are using the "Native" version.

Okay, I'm not sure what I did or changed (I don't *think* I changed anything ... ) but it started working again.  I am running Windows 7 and, if this re-occurs, I will install WinDBG and capture the stack trace for you.  I considered installing Qt4.3 and building from scratch so I could debug the issue myself but my last experience with Qt was less than stellar so I wanted to avoid that.

Thanks for the responses.

Okay, it happened again.  I ran it through WinDBG because there was no option to click "Debug".

I've attached the screenshots I took.

Any ideas?

I may need to recompile it with a newer version of MinGW.

There is one thing that you may need to be mindful of, check the system tray for the icon. Multiple copies running might be causing issues. If it's not running see if there's more than one ring down there. If so, that might be the issue (a strange one as well).

Even recompiling is giving me issues that I can't track down, so a new version is a ways off for now.
