Desktop edition has different defaults
« on: February 11, 2009, 09:56:21 PM »
I installed the desktop edition (version 0.4b for Windows), made my usual changes to the settings, and then found that I was generated 'different passwords'.  By 'different' I mean that they were different then I have generated before, using the firefox plug-in or the web interface.

The problem turned out to be that the desktop edition using different settings.  For example, on the web interface, the default is 12 chars and SHA-256, but with the desktop edition the defaults are 8 chars and MDA.

Is this a bug or have I made some sort of mistake?

Thanks.

No, you haven't made a mistake. The editions have different histories, so they aren't completely in-sync with defaults. However, they do indeed always generate the same passwords when the same settings are used. Perhaps Miquel is willing to change the desktop defaults.

Miquel?

Hmm, I need to look into this (once I get my development environment setup to actually compile the thing first. Recent reformat of Windows)
